Mechanical Engineer

Fort St. John, BC · Full time · $70,000–$110,000 a year

Fast-forward one year

You reviewed a hundred customer models and taught our design checks three new rules.

You helped a customer redesign a part so it cost half as much to make.

You wrote the design guide customers read before they upload.

Now back to today. If you'd like this story to be yours…

Lightmatter

Lightmatter prices CNC parts in seconds and makes them in Canadian shops. We're building a network of those shops that shares work, metal, people and training, and we don't turn people away: if we can't hire you today, we'll help you get where you're going.

The role

Every model uploaded to lightmatter.ca gets checked. You make those checks right, and you’re the engineer customers talk to when their part needs to change.

What you'll do

  • Review customer models and drawings before the firm price
  • Propose changes that make parts cheaper or better
  • Tune the design rules the instant quote applies
  • Write and keep the design guidelines
  • Work with partner shops on difficult parts

What you bring

  • A mechanical engineering degree, or a technologist diploma with experience
  • CAD (SOLIDWORKS, Fusion or similar)
  • GD&T and tolerance stack-ups
  • Knowing how parts are machined

What sets you apart

  • Time on a shop floor
  • EIT or P.Eng.
  • Experience with design for manufacture

New to the trade? We train. Missing something on the list? Apply anyway.
